Guess the time has come to put an end to all those heated debates about Star Wars: The Last Jedi and focus on another big blockbuster set in a galaxy far, far away. Yes, after all those countless Ron Howard sneak peeks, controversies, and “Where’s the trailer?” questions on Twitter, it looks like Disney is slowly pulling back the curtain on its upcoming Han Solo movie.
Disney Reveals Plot Details of Upcoming Han Solo Movie
Disney has finally broken their silence. Just this week, the studio released the official synopsis of the film, which sees Hollywood newcomer Alden Ehrenreich taking on the role of Han Solo.
Solo, the official title of Disney’s upcoming Han Solo origin film, is just four months away from its release.
To say that the film’s production was as smooth as a ride aboard the Millennium Falcon is a complete lie. Right from the very start, Solo has been shrouded with problems. First, the movie’s original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were fired and replaced by Ron Howard months into production. Next, the film’s underwhelming title was ill-received to say the least. Finally, there’s that ever-lingering question as to when the trailer will finally drop. It should be noted that the film is set for a May 23, 2018, release, so without a trailer or any signs of promotion, then the rumors that Disney is gearing up for the film to flop may as well be true.
Then, as if out of the blue, Disney finally releases a plot synopsis for the Han Solo movie.
“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy,” the synopsis reads on the official Star Wars website. “Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.”
So to summarize, the film will explore all previously unanswered questions about the beloved character’s past. It has been announced that the Falcon, Calrissian, and Chewie will all make appearances in the film, so fans of the Star Wars films are sure to have a thrill as they watch this unfold.
First Reaction of Han Solo Movie Goes Viral on Facebook
Early screenings for filmmakers and other industry big guns are nothing new, especially when it comes to anything that involves the Star Wars expanded universe. It gives production a chance to correct themselves just in time for the film’s worldwide release. Take for example The Force Awakens, the film was given an early screening for directors, one of whom was Ava Duvernay. She notably helped director J.J. Abrams pull a close shot look of Rey’s face during that fight scene with Kylo Ren. It made the sequence extra climactic and one of the unforgettable scenes of the movie.
Filmmaker Holger Frick was given the lucky chance to view footage of Solo during a Disney event in Munich. While it might be too early to tell, the review he posted on Facebook certainly seems promising.
“I just saw a Sneak Peak (EPK reel) of Solo: A Star Wars Story and I must say I’m really really overwhelmed of how freaggin good it looks! (nothing about the story yet) Alden Ehrenreich is amazing as Han Solo, and so is Donald Glover as Lando, Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson look awesome and it definitely had an old Star Wars Feel to it!! Looks like this could be the `fan-service-movie` some of the older Star Wars fans wanted from Episode VIII.”
“Fan service” may not be the most complimentary word to describe a film but considering how polarizing The Last Jedi‘s reception was, this could mean a step toward the right direction. Until then, here’s to hoping a trailer drops in the coming days.
