Raven-Symoné Set to Star in ‘That’s So Raven’ Sequel

Shortly after announcing that she will be leaving her seat on ABC’s The ViewRaven-Symoné is going back to her Disney roots to work on the highly anticipated sequel to That’s So Raven. Symoné starred in the hit Disney Channel original series for a total of four seasons. She first burst onto the small screen after appearing alongside Bill Cosby in The Cosby Show.

In addition to starring in the That’s So Raven sequel, Raven-Symoné announced that she is also set to executive-produce. The plot will still center around Raven, now a divorced mother of two pre-teen kids. One of the children is said to inherit her supernatural ability of seeing the future. Producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas are writing the pilot episode, the pair is best known for creating another Disney Channel original series, Best Friends Whenever.

Adam Bonnett, executive EVP of Original Programming for Disney Channel Worldwide, gave this statement following Raven-Symoné’s big return to Disney:

Raven’s brilliant style of fearless comedy was a driving force for Disney Channel’s success around the world. Her performance in That’s So Raven is timeless. We now have our eyes on the future with her, and we’re looking forward to telling more stories for a new generation with an adult Raven Baxter raising her young family.

That’s So Raven was considered to be one of Disney Channel’s most successful original series. It was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2005 and 2007 for Outstanding Children’s Programming. The show also garnered the highest ratings in Disney Channel history and was the first in the channel to go past the 100th episode mark. That’s So Raven ran from 2003 to 2007 and later spawned a spin-off series Cory in the House starring Symoné’s onscreen brother Kyle Massey.

To fulfill her commitment with the show, Raven-Symoné stated that she will be relocating from New York to Los Angeles to work on the show which is still in its early stages. As of this writing, casting calls have already been announced. However, the studio has been keeping mum about its scheduled release date. Aside from Symoné, other cast members such as Massey, Orlando Brown, and Anneliese van der Pol have yet to confirm their return.
